Putting the 'Giving' Back In Thanksgiving (and a #Giveaway)

I’m not going to beat around the bush. Okay, okay, I never beat around the bush, but this time I’m going to do it even less.

This giveaway is a very thinly veiled way to get you to head over to World Vision and donate a little money so they can help people who really need help.

See. No beating around the bush and total honesty to boot. That’s how we roll around here.

Look at it this way, we’re coming up on Thanksgiving, a day when we give thanks for all that’s been given to us. And how do we do that? We stuff ourselves to the point of needing stretchy pants and watch men beat on each other on the football field.

I’m not slamming that, friends. I plan on doing that very thing next Thursday.

But. Let’s just say that at some point between turkey and pumpkin pie, we take five minutes and really give. Literally. What if we pull everyone around the computer, head to World Vision, and choose something to give a gift to someone who has nothing?

What if we gave a family a goat and two chickens? Or, what if we supplied a town with $350 of essential, much needed medicine?

Suppose that we just gave money, money that was used to provide emergency food, water and hygiene kits to those trying to pull their lives back together in the Philippines.

Here’s your opportunity. Well, that’s not true. We always have the opportunity, right? But, this is a special chance, nonetheless.

Yes, there is a giveaway here, but I’d like you to work for it a little. Click on the catalog below and browse the various ways World Vision offers to help others. Choose one, come back and leave a comment letting me know what you and your family think would be the best gift to give.

Next week, I’ll use the Rafflecopter widget to pick a winner and that person will receive World Vision’s Prosperity Cinnamon box (pictured up top). The box is carved from the dried inner bark of Cassia (Cinnamon) trees by skilled artisans in Vietnam. The cinnamon is delicious.

Anyone can get the box with a $85 donation to World Vision. If you don’t want to go a week with your fingers crossed in hopes you win the giveaway, go ahead and give now. Your donation will help families receive social and health insurance as well as the opportunity to apply for scholarship funds. You’ll get a beautiful, hand-carved box full of cinnamon. It’s a win-win.

Please also considering keeping up with World Vision year-round. They do such great work.

A Friend, An Anniversary, and A Giveaway To Celebrate

I love this blog, you know that, right? In a way it’s my baby. In fact, all food bloggers feel this way. Every recipe we make and dish we share is a labor of love.

Actually, if I compare Dudette, who argues with me all the time, tries to erase every line I set in the sand and redraw it to her liking, can’t change clothes without leaving a dozen or so pieces strewn across the house, etc., etc., to my blog, which works exactly as I tell it to, provides hours of enjoyment, challenge and creativity, and gives me the opportunity to get to know friends, like you, from all over the world, it could give one moment for pause. Until I think about the hugs and cuddles and giggles and sharp, sassy sense of humor that makes up my girl.

It’s that love for what we do that makes us stop what we’re doing when we hear that a friend is celebrating their blog’s anniversary to join in and party with them. That’s what’s happening here today and that’s why you’re not going to see the regular Sunday Sip today.

Yes, I’m still sitting here drinking my glorious cup of coffee, but instead of chatting about the normal day-to-day stuff that makes up life, I’m going to introduce you to Kate, a really cool, wonderful lady who’s celebrating her blog’s third anniversary today.

Kate makes her home at Food Babbles, and what a home it is. In addition to glorious food like Cranberry Apple Sticky Buns and Sweet Potato Pie, Kate is mom to two incredibly cute little ones that I’m sure don’t leave half filled glasses all over the house on a regular basis.

Here’s the other thing about Kate. She’s generous. So much so, in fact, that when she pulled together her friends for her party, she told us that she wanted to celebrate with a giveaway. And she wanted us to have a part in it so we could include our friends (that would be you).

Yeah, it’s a KitchenAid stand mixer. Feel free to squeal at any time. Officially, it’s a KitchenAid 5 Qt Artisan Tilt-Head Stand Mixer. And you’ll get to pick the color you want if you win. How cool is that?

In case you’d like to mingle with the rest of the party goers, you can simply click on any one of their logos below and be whisked to their blogs as quickly as your internet connection allows. Please do so, okay? These are some of my favorite people.

So, I guess you’re curious about the logistics, right? As per usual, we’re using the nifty little Rafflecopter widget for the giveaway. All you need to do is follow the instructions on it. The party, and giveaway, starts now and ends on 11/16 at 11:59pm EST.

Join the party and celebrate Kate’s milestone with us. And enter to win the KitchenAid. You want it, you know you do.
